New Tampa Recreation Center Interior

FleischmanGarcia was retained to design the New Tampa Recreation Center by the City of Tampa. At the time of construction, it was the largest recreation center owned by the city that was then dedicated by Mayor Pam Iorio.

The 19,634 sq. ft. center, located near Freedom High School and Liberty Middle School in Tampa Palms, includes a 14,000 sq. ft., state-of-the-art gymnastics area, two multi-purpose rooms for gatherings and an outdoor tot lot.

Parents are able to drop their children off out front, underneath a canopy above the walkway leading through the front doors. Drivers are able to pull into oversized parking spots that easily accommodate SUVs and minivans.

Extra-wide walkways direct foot traffic in and around the building. While large, high windows direct natural sunlight into the reception area, the center is able to maintain a comfortable ambient temperature with the help of ceiling fans measuring 14 feet in diameter. Due to its "gymnastics focus", the center provides state-of-the-art equipment for training gymnasts from beginners to advanced athletes.
